Ahimsa is mentioned in the first limb of yoga, known as the Yamas. Maharishi Patanjali defines Ahimsa as "non-violence in thought, word, and deed towards oneself and others." It is considered the foundation for all other ethical principles in yoga.

Ahimsa is considered one of the qualities of a wise and realized individual. It is presented as a guiding principle for righteous action, promoting harmony, and fostering a peaceful existence.

Ahimsa should be practiced both internally, by abstaining from negative thoughts and emotions, and externally, by refraining from causing harm to others

Practicing non-violence in all aspects of life helps purify the mind, remove negativity, and expand consciousness.
